PRINCE NITE: NEW YEAR’S EVE
Back by popular demand: Prince Nite returns to the Scoot Inn on New Year’s Eve with dancing, DJ sets and the music of Prince played live by Foot Patrol, benefiting the SIMS Foundation.
The original performance of PRINCE NITE: EROTIC CITY COMES ALIVE proved so popular that RubyRico Productions is bringing the show back to the Scoot Inn (1308 E. 4th Street) on New Year’s Eve, Wednesday, December 31. This spectacular event, which pairs foot-fetish funk fiends Foot Patrol with the rich and eclectic musical career of Prince, is further glorified by the Funk Peepshow Dancers, turntable sets by DJ Mahealani, and some unusually interactive entertainment. Doors open and dancing begins at 9:00pm; show begins at 10:00pm. Tickets are $15 in advance, $20 at the door. For tickets and more information, go to www.rubyrico.com.
To augment the stunning talents of RubyRico’s Funk Peepshow Dancers, the first presentation of Prince Nite also offered spectators a chance to join the onstage action with a spinning wheel, a lovesexy bed, and a purple dancers’ cage. And, like “Stax Nite” before it, the show filled its venue to overflowing with grinning, sweating, dancing crowds. But it was when the previously-clear skies unleashed a downpour during the opening chords of “Purple Rain” that RubyRico Productions’ reputation was cemented as producers of dazzling, thematic onstage spectacles.
A portion of all ticket proceeds from Prince Nite: New Year’s Eve will benefit the SIMS Foundation, a local nonprofit which provides access to low-cost counseling and other mental health services for Austin-area musicians and their immediate families.
Foot Patrol has developed into a multimedia sensation, bringing their witty and riotous brand of funk music to enthusiastic crowds all over Austin. Austinist.com said, “To those who have had the chance to see Foot Patrol in action, it's clear that their true calling is a unique brand of ‘80s Minneapolis funk... it's not to be missed.”
Prince Nite is hosted by local radio disc jockey Rick “Daddy” McNulty, host of KUT's “Saturday Overnight” program and KOOP's popular “Excavation Nation,” which mines vintage funk and soul gems, focusing on their cultural and historical relevance. The evening also includes a Prince “Finish the Line” trivia contest, and much more.
